Mie Citizens Council for the Ise-Shima Summit

Aiming to organize and host the G7 Japan 2016 Ise-Shima Summit successfully, the Mie Citizens Council for the Ise-Shima Summit was established on June 26, 2015, to utilize all public and private resources in Mie Prefecture by combining the forces of the prefectural government and citizens, groups, organizations, businesses, and local municipalities in the prefecture.

The Mie Citizens Council for the Ise-Shima Summit consists of 140 member groups, 79 advisors and 10 special advisors.

Objectives of establishment:

To ensure the success of the Summit, all citizens, related organizations & groups, businesses, and local municipalities in the prefecture, and the prefectural government, need to make concerted efforts to involve a wide range of people and organizations in the event.

Also, in order that positive effects of holding the G7 Summit will be brought not only to the Ise-Shima area but also to the entire prefecture, and not temporarily but permanently, it is necessary for each citizen of the prefecture to play an active role in holding the summit and plan projects that look ahead to the post-summit period. To this end, the entire prefecture must work hard to make the event successful.

Accordingly, the Mie Citizens Council for the Ise-Shima Summit was established by involving many people from a wide variety of fields to take appropriate measures to hold the G7 Japan 2016 Ise-Shima Summit.

Basic policy

1. Basic concept

Holding a G7 summit, the world’s highest-level meeting, represents an unparalleled opportunity to upgrade Mie Prefecture as a world tourist destination and enhance the region’s collective strengths. It is important to push hard to make known to the rest of the world the beautiful natural environment, rich culture and traditions, advanced technologies, etc. unique to Mie Prefecture.

Furthermore, to maintain the positive effects of the Summit to activate the region after the event, it is important for all citizens, including men and women, children, and young, elderly and handicapped people, to be actively involved in the event, from the planning to implementation stages.

To make the Summit a complete success through a prefecture-wide initiative, the Mie Citizens Council for the Ise-Shima Summit is engaged in efforts based on the following four pillars.

(1) Support for holding the Summit
We will help make the Summit a success by taking all possible measures.

To make the Summit a success, we will take all possible measures to ensure full support and maximum cooperation.

(2) Hospitality
We will welcome visitors from around the world with warm hospitality, which has been nurtured by history, so that their stay will long stand in their memories.

By leveraging history, culture, foods and other rich resources in the prefecture, which has welcomed many visitors through the ages, we will extend our warm welcome to the G7 leaders, newspersons, and other visitors from around the world so that they can enjoy the hospitality of the citizens of the prefecture and have fond memories for many years to come.

(3) Handing down a legacy to future generations
We will hand down the legacy of the Summit to future generations by having the citizens of the prefecture, including children, play a leading role in communicating with people from around the world.

We will make efforts to hand down the legacy of the event to future generations by involving children, who will be responsible for the future, and other people from diversified fields in the event and by having each citizen play a leading role in projects to enhance international understanding and exchanges with G7 and other countries.

(4) Promotion of the charms of Mie
We will promote the charms of Mie, including its scenic beauty and rich culture and traditions.

We will employ every opportunity to introduce the charms of Mie Prefecture that we boast to the world, including its scenic beauty, rich culture and traditions, and advanced technologies, which we have created and maintained, to people both in Japan and overseas.
