Education and Health

Mie’s approach toward education conveys the prefecture’s strong stance toward accommodating the needs of families arriving from overseas. Its policies on public schools put the impetus on instructors, working together with parents, local communities and volunteers, to deepen their understanding and awareness of non-Japanese students and their diverse backgrounds. For families who require an English based education for their children, Mie International School located in Tsu City offers a K-6 and preschool program catering to both foreign nationals and Japanese students. Mie International School use the International Primary Curriculum in an all English environment.

Like its education system, Mie’s other facilities and services are geared to respond to the needs of its international residents. A total of 68 hospitals and 30 dental clinics in the prefecture handle languages other than Japanese (as of February 2017). The prefecture also organizes regular specialist consultation days with information for non-Japanese nationals on everything from legal matters and visas to labor issues and mental health. Interpretation for these events is available in a variety of languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese.

　教育に対する三重県の考え方は、海外から移住してきた家族の要望に応えることです。日本の学校は両親や地元コミュニティ、そしてボランティアと協力し合うことで、外国人学生に対する理解を深めています。その他の教育機関としては、津市にある三重インターナショナルスクールは、英語による教育を必要とする家族のために、外国人と日本人学生の両方を対象とした初等部（6年間）プログラムと幼稚部プログラムを提供しています。三重インターナショナルスクールは、インターナショナルプライマリーカリキュラム（IPC）を導入し、IPCの授業はすべて英語で行われています。
 
　教育制度同様、三重県は他の施設やサービスにおいても外国人居住者のニーズに応えています。県内の68の病院と30の歯科医院（2017年2月現在）で英語での対応が可能です。県は外国人の方々に、法律関連からビザ取得、雇用問題、心の健康まで幅広く専門家に相談できる環境を整えています。これらの相談があった場合、英語、スペイン語、ポルトガル語、中国語を含む様々な言語での対応が可能です。
